Nashville, Tenn., July 15, 2008 – In stores today from Michael W. Smith, Seabourne Pictures and Randall House is the innovative new small group study series on DVD called C2: Giving Movies a Second Look. C2 is designed to help individuals develop critical thinking skills when watching movies. Although just hitting retail shelves, C2’s Love At First Sight [Volume One] and Relapse [Volume Two] are already garnering acclaim from film, group leader and media critics alike.
Entering and receiving exclusive appearances at three respected film festivals, Love At First Sight and Relapse have been featured in the 2008 Nashville and Tallahassee Film Festivals respectively, and “Relapse” will be featured in the upcoming 2008 River's Edge International Film Festival in Paducah, KY.
Garnering acclaim for its theatrical quality, C2 is expected to help meet the increased demand for DVD curriculum, as well as the growing demand from fans of Christian films. Each C2 DVD contains a twenty-minute original short film along with bonus features, which include a personal introduction from Michael W. Smith, behind-the-scenes movie features, out-takes, director’s comments and deleted movie scenes. The leader of a small group will have access to helpful tools, including study guides for three separate lessons relating directly to the movie and promoting critical thinking.
“In today’s culture it’s imperative that we help teens and young adults develop critical thinking skills for the movies, entertainment and art they interact with,” says Darren Whitehead, Willow Creek Community Church youth minister. “Michael W. Smith has stepped up to meet this challenge by developing a groundbreaking resource in C2. It’s entertaining, easy to use and engaging.”
Collide Magazine adds that “C2 will be a great addition to any small group” and calls Relapse “beautifully filmed, well-written and emotionally stirring…”
Love At First Sight Synopsis:
Co-written and directed by Mark Cowart and scored by David Hamilton, Love at First Sight features two teenage video store clerks who argue about the possibility of love at first sight when the year’s biggest romantic drama hits the shelves. Jessica loves the movie and the idea of falling in love at first sight; Dane thinks it’s ridiculous and claims that his favorite film, an obscure independent French film, is a much better love story. She issues a challenge, he accepts, and their friendly competition leads to an eye-opening surprise. The acompanying small group study will provide discussion points related to true love, judging others and accepting differing opinions.
Relapse Synopsis:
Written and directed by Ryan Smith and scored by Jim Daneker, Relapse is a drama dealing with themes of addiction, grief and bioethics. Grief affects each parent differently as time goes by. The mother has found a unique way to avoid dealing with her grief. She is caught in a vicious cycle and must find a way to break the cycle for everyone in the family, including the child. The accompanying small group study will provide discussion points related to addictions, playing God and dealing properly with grief.
